Congreagtion
2025
Wood, chicken wire, paper mache, joint compound
The installation, Congregation, serves as a space where the viewer is invited to participate and witness the three distinct, large-scale pieces interact and congregate within a space. Each piece is part of a larger body, the form derived from the act of genuflecting that one performs before entering a place of worship, specifically a Catholic church, and joining the Congregation in liturgy. Each piece and color is derived from religious sacraments, such as baptism and reconciliation, as well as more contemporary concepts and writings, including The Great Divorce. Each part stands on its own, yet they work together to create a unified body. “The Head”, “Leg”, and “Foot” are positioned to form a deconstructed figure that is transformed into three solidary figures acting as a whole within the space and its “Church”.
